  1. Tomorrowland - DTS HDMA 7.1 Level - 4 Stars (111.08dB composite) Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz) Dynamics - 5 Stars (32.73dB) Execution - 4 Stars Overall - 4.5 Stars Recommendation - Tossup Comments - Full bandwidth track, terrific sound design. Unfortunately, clips in LCRS on loudest scenes, but I didn't find it too objectionable like in T:Genisys. This Movie is not for everyone, but I liked it. Two very low ULF hits account for the spike down low. They are there on purpose. JSS
  2. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - Dolby Atmos (7.1 Analyzed) Level - 4 Stars (110.45dB composite) Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz) Dynamics - 5 Stars (29.86dB) Execution - 3 Stars Overall - 4.25 Stars Recommendation - Rent Comments: Full bandwidth track, but not as heavy as the real monsters. Clips in LCR+LFE. Decent film, worth a watch. JSS
  3. Ant-Man - DTS HD-MA 7.1 Level - 3 Stars (108.81dB Composite) Extension - 3 Stars (16Hz) Dynamics - 5 Stars (30.77dB) Execution - Executive decision, 3 Stars Overall - 3.5 Stars Recommendation - Rent unless you are a true Marvel fan Comments: Really enjoyed the film, rolloff similar to the Iron Man films, some clipping in LCR+LFE, but not as bad as some other films. May be a good candidate for BEQ, as this film has some re-watchability, but Marvel has to try something other than "good guy w/ nearly same tech/powers as bad guy who appears to be more powerful but loses in the end". JSS
  4. Nube is pretty busy. I may have some time this wknd to measure a few of the latest, like T:G and Uncle. JSS
  5. Tactile Feel is way too broad a term. It incorporates furniture/floor resonances, body cavity resonances, clothing movement (very little movement of clothing is all it takes for 'pant flapping' to be felt). While the VibSensor is a great first step, simply changing the axis of measurement can yield very different results, and different results on a different part of the floor or piece of furniture. That being said, I think between accelerometer readings on furniture, directional soundfield readings a'la Kvalsvoll, and conventional FR/SPL, a very good picture of what a room can sound and feel like could be had. JSS
  6. I always tend to prefer the theatrical mix when I have a choice. More dynamic range in general, more standardized setup, and not mixed for a TV/soundbar. or HTIB satellite system w/ less than competent LCRS. Mixing for home is such a compromise due to the variety of playback systems. I wish the production houses would just put both tracks on every BD. JSS
  7. Nice....what does the DTS track look like? PvA wise? I'll take a higher rolloff without clipping than a lower rolloff with any day. JSS
  8. http://cdn-blog.dolby.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Dolby-Atmos-for-the-Home-Theater.pdf Page 14 and 15 will blow your mind. Looks like there is enough theoretical room to do 24.1.10? Time to sell that car. JSS
  9. Only reason I said 'not enough speakers' is that if anyone on this earth is going to have true 64-channel cinema ATMOS in their room, it'll be Scott... JSS
  10. There aren't enough speakers in that room. Not even close. JSS
  11. I may have a THT for sale with a DVC driver in it. Finished in duratex. PM me if interested. JSS
  12. THTs are efficient, you'll like a second. Terrific spl down to high teens. JSS
  13. I actually generate the BEQ curves with S, and calculate Q to post here. I can post both on future BEQ. I sometimes use steeper S than 1, though. JRiver should allow values greater than 1, as the filters are not 'unstable' as they claim. JSS
  14. I would think that modifying Jriver to allow Q or S input would be a simple task.... JSS
  15. An overhead IB array would be pretty impressive. Since most folks would be seated at the same height, only one EQ solution, no EQ compromises between rows. JSS
  16. I think so, but I am not familiar enough with JRiver to know for sure. I post Q values as most DSPs use Q values. S is used when calculating biquad coefficients for a Low Shelf, and some software (like SoX), use the S (Slope) factor for shelf filters instead of Q. Your 'invalid' corrections would simply not be as steep, as a Slope of 1 = Q of 0.707 JSS
  17. Pixels (Dolby True HD 7.1) Level - 5 Stars (112.7dB composite) Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz) Dynamics - 5 Stars (28.06dB) Execution - 5 Stars Overall - 5 Stars!!! Recommendation - Buy Notes - ULF Highlight in the 49th minute for those that can resolve it. JSS
  18. That Aura has always looked good. I have been impressed by their products...hope it does well. JSS
  19. Jurassic World - DTS-HDMA 7.1 Level - 4 Stars (110.61dB composite) Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz on peak graph) Dynamics - 5 Stars (27.59dB) Execution - 4 Stars Recommendation - Buy Notes: Gets 5-Star Extensionion on a technicality, actually a 12Hz film. Clipping on occasion in the LCRs, all other channels clean, and clipping is not horrible, 4 samples max duration seen. OK film, good sound, centered at 30Hz. JSS
  20. I will get to Jurassic World at some point. I haven't seen MadMax nor Pixels, but those grabs look good. How is the film? I would not expect much... JSS
