  1. Which is better is up to you. Some like to have four subs per side under a SH96 for instance. Some like two have a pair of subs. Not many have a single sub unless this is just for fun at normal levels. Not PA. I dont ever really pay attention do Danley's max numbers. So when it comes down to it is is mainly a question of what music are you playing and how low do you need to go. The Xoc1 is a great sub option if you dont need anything lower than 35hz as such. BUT the Xoc1 was design from a need for a flat to 35hz with four subwoofers. Ricci's design would be more like flat to 27/8hz with four. Take a look at simulations and see which you like best. If I wanted to only have 35hz and use an 18" I would pick the Xoc1's design. If I wanted to go much lower I would use the Othorn. Use the adapter plate on the Othorn for the 18 and then when you can find a 21" buy one. Always hard to say what is best to one person verse another.
  2. Real world problems I guess. I couldnt tell what what amount of compression was going on with the different frequencies measured in the end. It would look like there was quite a bit of compression with double the "wattage," and only minimal gains. BUT again its not exactly apples vs apples. Still a great test though.
  3. I have always been chatting with Dgage(SP dealer also) about them. Although I heard many also get them from Seaton also.

I dont mind the moving part, It wont be moving very often ever. BUT I have a LOT of plans I have made that are all over the place size wise. For my outdoor ventures it seems 24-28hz is about as low as I want to tune. That way I have massive spl higher up. Single 700liter to dual 1100liter -1590liter. The cool thing is while I have been searching for a certain number in my head I have figured out a lot on the way. Also am very curious what Ricci cooks up next because the IPAL Othorn is extremely hard to beat. Sure I can go huge with the SW152 pair and beat the Othorn but the size is just as costly. So for me paying 120 dollars a sheet of plywood adds up quickly on a gigantic design in the end. SO most likely my large designs will be kept in HR. 3000 dollars for 140db at 30hz and 130db at 25hz. That's Australian dollars also. So for value that is quite impressive. If Ricci does something that is especially made for the IPAL I cant wait to see the numbers.
  5. That is awesome. Quite impressive specs. And a great value for the price.
  6. Ricci I can delete my comments if you want to add more reserve spots? Let me know.

I hope your GH replacement is LOUD. I have a design that I may build in January/February. It is a massive FLH 1600L that uses a pair of BC 21's. 31hz tune roughly. Figure I would send it to you and see what you thought. I had looked at the Hybrid designs and may still build a single 21" cabinet with a 33hz port also. BUT I was also trying to design something with monster SPL without the port. Anyways look forward to your progress and updates.

I personally would like to see what response shape you end up with and how much more SPL using this uber 21. All my response shapes are very peaky with the IPAL and extremely flat when swapping the SW152. So I look forward to see what the final results are from your design. And yes as you stated there IS enough that you could figure out the design if you really wanted to. And while I could figure it out myself I feel it would be disrespectful of me to do so. I have simulated so many designs now since seeing others designs, I see why so many DONT want to post their designs. So I will just be watching and enjoying the outcome from another amazing design from J.R.

Well I am glad to hear your keeping busy to at least keep the new fun projects like these coming for the future. Look forward to hearing and seeing more in future updates.

How is the amp coming along? Or is that part of the recipe already finished?

K20? Is it the suspension and motor that make this thing so hard to power to hit Xmax or is it mainly impedance in this new horn?

I like the new fold pattern. Will your build of this have dual hatches?

I had a few simulations of the Othorn and changing a few things got the response with the IPAL smoother with a touch more extension than in the original Othorn, That said its a very high compression ratio of about 5. Looks great in the simulation but was curious what your thoughts were. That being said I will wait to hear your drivers results after testing. I also thought you had discs to aid ib even compression but just had one to many and the cone made contact with that? Not sure Either way I hope to throw some sun your way to see you get this tested in the next month or so.

Only curious as I have played with the 21 IPAL in many simulations but Ricci what do you think this driver can take as far as compression?e

I am cool now. YAY!! lol. Should be awesome Ricci I am sure.

YAY!!!! Glad to see this is moving forward. I cant wait to hear your results.
  17. I sent Radian a few questions on their Neo woofer to see what they say the mechanical limits are on the woofer. I liked the BC better because of price anyways. I also wish I could learn more about the ZOD woofer capabilities.
  18. Ricci have you ever dealt with any of the Radian woofers? I was looking at the BC SW115 vs Radian 2216 Neo and the Radian is a monster but I don't know anything about their capabilities and specs. I know I can trust the BC's. The Radian is a LOT more money but I still wondered about the company. I know their CD's are quite impressive but that's about it. Just curious is all as I have a pair of 18 Sound NLW9300's already. I have pushed one of them past Xmax for sure and they still sounded great. So if you ever get a chance to test the Radian that would be great. I know your more of an 18" or up guy.
