We found Pixels to be no sillier a premise than Avengers or Mad Max or Jurassic World and typical of the majority of the Adam Sandler library.
As a MWB, the caps speak for themselves. More specifically, the low end effects, which you can see are extremely wide bandwidth, are quite unique and easily discernible as such when audibly scrutinized. It's a heavyweight. I don't know about the level because my system is in test flux and not calibrated and my PC for SL and REW is being replaced and not on line, so I inquired above because it might be required pre-info before the bassheads grab this one and let it rip.
Sound design and re-recording mixer Steve Boeddeker who did sound design for Tron:Legacy, Hellboy and X-Men has been around the block, working his way up. He goes back to the 90s, including Sound Effects Editor credit for Fight Club. Looking forward to more Design/Mix work from this guy.
Pixels is a contender for MWB of the year, IMO, script/score/acting quality notwithstanding.
Great info, thanks Bosso
The next Randy Thom??

I always wanted some of the XXXs but have always been skint lol
They were listing at $1k each on Amazon.com when I last looked so half price is awesome.

What sort of difference in thd have you seen from going to increased loads?
This sort of data (thd vs freq at different output and under different loads) seems almost completely absent from published specs so I am curious to know what sort of real world impact is.
It would be good to have some empirical data on this - after all, our vocal friend on AVF asserts it is common knowledge lol

Good job on your testing! It has been a pleasure to interact with you during the process. I feel you have been very fair and well grounded in reality. The results are about what I expected. The K20 has a higher voltage power supply so I expected it to take the honors on the burst test and it did. The SP2-12000 is not your average amplifier designed for light duty cycles and higher frequencies. It shines at very low and infrasonic frequency performance and high duty cycles. It takes special testing to reveal this performance. My long term sine wave testing is done a single frequency at a time. The initial input level is set to get the maximum undistorted short term power level. Then I graph the output power versus time. This allows you to see how the amp loses power at lower frequencies, how long it holds full power before it cuts back, how smoothly it cuts back (some go into oscillation, some cut off) and what power level it eventually settles at. In your test, the back and forth of which amp is higher may be due to the time constant of the protection circuits interacting with the sweep rate of the test signal as the impedance changed in the load. I don't mean to criticize; it just demonstrates how hard it is to test this stuff.

I hope your GH replacement is LOUD. I have a design that I may build in January/February. It is a massive FLH 1600L that uses a pair of BC 21's. 31hz tune roughly. Figure I would send it to you and see what you thought. I had looked at the Hybrid designs and may still build a single 21" cabinet with a 33hz port also. BUT I was also trying to design something with monster SPL without the port.
Anyways look forward to your progress and updates.
Wait... 1600 litres?? Isn't that something like 56 cubic feet?!
HTF are you going to build and move that?! lol

Great test, thanks for taking the time to do it and write it all up!

I've got some fellow DIYers who have offered to help build out the prototype pair of cabs for close to cost. They do good work and have a substantial amount of bass horn chi themselves, so that helps out versus trying to explain every detail to typical cabinet shops who have no idea what they are looking at in the plans. It's probably going to be a while, but I hope to have something by the end of the year.
I'm finalizing the print on something else I've been working on for a couple of years currently. Something to replace my GH's with. Hopefully it works as modeled.
Oooh, exciting, will look forward to updates!

Any chance of testing the orbit shifter LFU? It's 225lbs but it should put up some good numbers.

I'm not sure I'd call that commentary a "review"
I was thinking that AVF had done a formal review on the 3x12 but I might actually be thinking about the review of the whole system that they did!
-
The XTZ 3x12 has some good reviews in the UK, especially at the c.£1600 pricepoint.

2.3 and 2.9 on the Richter scale felt over 20 miles away. That would be a heavy low sub bass ULF.
tragic event.
Really?
Wow, I did think that it was going to be measurable on earthquake monitoring equipment. Unbelieve to see that release of energy in such a short amount of time.

SPACE CAMP (1986) region 2 DVDDolby Stereo matrixThis would be cool with a theatrical Far Field mix 70mm 6-track Dolby Stereo TrueHD.The Dolby Stereo matrix, has a good use of steering the matrix mono surround and plenty of rumble track during the main engine test before all goes haywire.Chapter 5, 45min.29sec
haha I loved space camp
Classic 80's chopped-off bottom end, though!

Prometheus (2012) film4
LCR (mix) heads-up Prometheus, crashes into ALIEN space craft.
Appalling filter on Prometheus, drives me nuts.

Your english is fine, don't worry
How much are the M-Force? If they are $$$$ then it's likely that better results could be achieved with multiples of smaller, cheaper drivers, I think?
You could always model the Stereo Integrity HS24 in a horn, although as it wants a big box even in a Sealed box, a horn would be huge!

I bet there was shit-your-pants levels of <20Hz content in real life when this happened in China...

I wonder how many 'audiophiles' would be arguing its non-relevance after that!!
(I hope that doesn't come across as me trivialising it, I am amazed more aren't dead TBH - that must be one of the biggest peacetime explosions in history and it looks pretty f'ing scary just sitting in front of a screen.)

Hi Maxmercy,
My name is Eric Flament and I work for Eminent Technology. We produce the TRW-17 rotary woofer. Your post is really great. I am working on updating our web page and I stumbled across this website. Do you mind if I link to this post on our website: http://www.rotarywoofer.com?
Hi Eric,
I just thought I'd jump in to say 'Welcome to the forum'
I find this thread to be an excellent resource and an example of great collaborative input from many knowledgeable people, most of whom have probably forgotten more than I will ever learn!
Your rotary woofers do come up in conversation on here so it's great that you've joined, and that data-bass is being recognised as the excellent resource for empirical analysis that it is.
Just to ask the question, and if it's not too cheeky , would you consider sending one to Josh (who owns the site) for testing? I think it would be awesome to have him add your woofer to the list of drivers he has already tested!
I'll look forward to seeing you around the forum, either way

Interesting - I'm sure the Alien mixes were recently posted on here and they didn't have much in the way of low end??

Sounds awesome
I need me a multi-region BDP but they are £££...

The Admiral: Roaring Currents (Korean 5.1 DTS-HD MA)
Level - 4 Stars (110.98dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz)
Dynamics - 3 Stars (24.97dB)
Execution - TBD
Overall - TBD
Recommendation - TBD
Notes: Although probably only Bosso can reproduce this thing's deepest content, be careful because the hottest moments are all below 5Hz. Not a dynamic mix, because of so much constant content, but it's the definition of full-bandwidth.
PvA:
Wow
That looks like a beast - Bosso or Madaeel need to get on the case with the SL screencaps
Would you be able to confirm what region the disk is? No mention of it on UK Amazon, other than it's an import
Thanks for adding more for voting!

MemX,
That's it! Thanks for digging that one up, man.
No worries, I was intrigued and it was more fun finding it than doing work at work lol
I will have to re-listen to that scene - I'm certain I'm not getting the full effect but will check!
-
Agreed^^ I haven't seen this in a while, but I remember the word "dynamic" came to mind when I watched it as well. One of my favorite scenes for bass is actually one that's never really talked about. It's after the very first gunshot, in the very beginning. It lasts from after that first gunshot all the way until he meets Beatrice in the diner. My chairs sway back and forth.. and it's not all that subtle if you listen at reference. It feels like I'm sitting on JELLO. I remember seeing a graph over at the other site.. it was "blips" of 3-6hz iirc with nothing else going on. Very, very cool stuff.. It gave that very ominous, "sense of doom" kind of feeling for me. Would love to see that part graphed if anyone has the chance..
Looks like this might be the post you're talking about?

DareDevil is in the queue.
But I have an announcement: 2012 ended with a BANG. Here's Looper:
Level - 4 Stars (111.27dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (7 Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (28.49dB)
Execution - 5 Stars - This film has it all, the sub-20Hz stuff was used sparingly and effectively, some great upper bass punch as well. it curiously looks like Underworld:Awakening, with the 28Hz spike in Avg level. I am glad 2012 rebounded with a few excellent MWBs.
Overall - 4.75 Stars!
Recommendation - I say Buy. This is a very unique take on time travel, and it is not just a graphics festival.
JSS
Just watched this tonight - it finally got cheap enough for cheap me to buy lol
Thoroughly agree with the assessment! Punchy gunshots, very dynamic transients between scenes, some powerful effects digging deep when needed - and it was a good storyline, albeit not super-cheery lol
Definitely one to buy if you haven't already

My neighbours will look forward to that one...
Ooh, and Bosso - that Earth to Echo capture, was it done on the clip-tastic 105? If so, would be interesting to see it on a non-clipping machine!

I think I'm going to have to pay for all the neighbours to go out for the evening before I can watch Interstellar at Reference... lol
