  1. I have got to make it down to Dave's one of these days.

Yeah, I'd love to. You probably have a better chance than I do being closer. I gotta make it out to the East coast.

The only speaks placed like the scaled drawing are the dual sub stacks and the CC. I just randomly grabbed a Dolby 7.1 plot and copied it for the drawing and the SBR and SBL are future when I move to 7.2.4 with 4 ceiling speaks. I'll post then and you can spill the beans. It will, as always, be much appreciated.

Man, this visit and reciprocal visit thing is so far overdue I'm embarrassed to even mention it. It's gonna get cold soon. I'd love to get to your place before then and you're always welcome here in the Shahlit Town.

Ah, okay. That has got to be a very old diagram. If you ever do 7.1 please don't do it like that. It won't sound good at all. If you want any tips on really good 7.1 (or Atmos) set up, hit me up.

I haven't been to a GTG or visited another enthusiasts home in years. Haven't made it to any of the big Expo's either. Slacking!

I go to CES every year. Went to CEDIA last year and that was good. Would like to go again but not going this year.

Oh woops. This is a system thread. My bad.

  2. Sweet! Thanks for posting, Dave.

Hey, I have a question/critique.... are those shadows in the back supposed to be rear surrounds and the other side surrounds for 7.1 audio? Are you finally going 7.1? If so... please, do NOT place them like this. You might as well stay 5.1 if so. I can help and suggest other spots but I know space is tight in your room.

    Thanks again for posting.

  3. I think this best sums up all of the drama over the last few days, including my own idiocy:

Yes, the site has been slower.  But nube and I both are very busy folks, and measuring films has not been on my front burner for a while.  Will I measure Avengers 2?  Yes.  But I really don't have as much time as I used to have to do this kind of stuff.  It may be time for me to step down as a mod here and have someone else take over, I'll contribute when I can, mainly to the BEQ thread if there is still interest.  Hard to believe it has been 3 years since that first post.

Things go in cycles for everyone, things will pick up again.  And what, that was like the ONLY time I've seen Mod action needed since I've been here and no one was put in the penalty box over it and it didn't turn into a big deal.  This place is as laid back as it gets and I dig it.

Avengers 2 had better bring it for real this time or I give up on Marvel.

Yeah. You're not getting off that easy. :P

  4. Looks like he could be clipping the signal. If you do that's exactly what the low end response will look like. It happened to me posting some caps the first time I didn't realize were clipped.

That was my other thought of what was happening but I don't think that is what is happening here. He is using a lot of external processing from closed out cinemas with his gear so who knows exactly what is going on with the signal.

He just forgot to tilt the graphs.

    He should port them.

    Haha!

    But seriously...

  5. Welcome to DB, Ashley. Haven't seen you around in a long while. Thanks for posting all these measurements.

I find it interesting how much ~1hz content is in all these graphs of yours. You have a cacophony of gear (that I would say is unnecessary) but I wonder if that stuff is really in these recordings. All that DC stuff tracks the transient so it looks like a natural thing but I wonder if it's some kind of overloading or otherwise unintended artifact.

    I hope you're reading this, Dave. ;)

Not saying that if it's there, it's crap, unintended ULF. I'm wondering why all of Ashley's graphs show stuff there and that it is some unintended measurement artifact. Kinda surprising to me.

Ashley, do you have some more modern movies not on laserdisc to graph? Even better would be some graphs from movies that are already on here and if you're going to come up with more DC level bass that isn't in anyone else's graphs.

    Just curious.

  6. I had to send both of them back after receiving them, then one of them an additional 2 times. They had a defective batch of coils from the vendor. One blew on very little power twice, one was scratchy right of the bat and the other had a very odd issue with seemingly working ok but presenting nearly a dead short to the amp. There was no impedance peak indicating resonance on that one! I just got the second driver that has had constant issues back and it seems to finally be good, so I now have a working pair of TD18-H+ Apollo's like 3 years in. This was all on John's dime BTW. I paid nothing for all of the shipping. He probably lost money on this pair. What a journey.

We use them for our bass guitar rig. At this point I'm scared to do a DB type measurement battery on them because they might let go and I don't know if I can take it again. John will probably commit himself to a mental asylum if I contact him about them again. They do sound great but I wonder about their survivability now.

Hmmm. Geez what a journey, for sure! It's too bad we may not get a DB level test on them. I sure am curious of their 'proper' performance and it sounds like you like them.
