  1. Damn, wish I had some cash for those amps!
  2. Continuing my unintended trend this week of watching sea-based films last night was Life of Pi (3D). Similar premise to All Is Lost but somewhat cheerier... lol Good depth to the bass, although only occasionally dramatic and substantial, but overall a great production, and the 3D did add to the film. I will have to watch U-571 and Das Boot later in the week... lol
  3. I may well follow your lead on that lol We watched All Is Lost tonight - man, that's a cheery film... lol And slow!! Seriously, sometimes I just wanted to shout at him to hurry it up That said, at the end it did make me think so I guess that's the point of the film, and the mix was great, the thunder was nicely done
  4. Managed to pick up some great deals in a 5-for-£30 offer, including Olympus Has Fallen. I think I'm in serious need of a house curve once I've sorted my EQ out, I wasn't massively impressed with the monument scene running it flat-as-audyssey-calibrated-it, but re-running it something like 10dB hot was a lot more fun... lol
  5. Finally managed to watch Oz tonight after I spotted a bargain a few weeks ago - storyline is a bit schmaltzy lol but sound is great, love the deep stuff from the green witch! Only had it around -17 as th missus was watching it with me but the end bit is definitely demo-worthy and might have to get played loud tomorrow morning lol
  6. Cheers! I've never really thought much of that scene myself TBH (or the rest of the film lol) I'll have to re-watch it!
  7. Just to link to Bosso's post in the http://data-bass.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/316-earth-to-echo-discussion-poll/'>rating thread, Earth to Echo looks good!
  8. I am failing to get the excel spreadsheet working right now on this stupid computer, but are the two last Harry Potters on the list to be done at some point?
  9. I've just watched Interstellar at the cinema. Please, please, please, pleeeeeeeeease let it be unfiltered when it comes out on BD!!! Great dynamic range, sudden sharp transients, luxuriously long passages of bass, all of it fitting to what's on-screen... If it is unfiltered, I reckon this one could be a sub killer, potentially! Fingers crossed! (Don't hold your breath, though - as a Nolan film I fear the same fate as the Dark Knight mixes... )
  10. bao - check out the Bossobass system thread in the Bass Systems part of the forum - there are several images in there showing 9 has content down to low single-digit Hz at quite high levels, but as noted above, it sounds like you prefer distinct, separate sweeps, rather than full-bandwidth content. What system are you running?
  11. Say whaaaaaat? Do you have the US BD? (7.1 DTS, I think?) IIRC the UK BD is 5.1 and, IMO, it's ridiculously loud... -6 on the opening sequence feels like I've been physically assaulted yet -6 on Oblivion is just a little bit too loud during speech but fine otherwise.
  12. I'm late to the party on this one (mainly because I refuse to spend more than £6 on a blu-ray unless it's exceptional or 3D, so get things months after they come out ) but I'd agree with the ratings on Phantom - nice balance of vocals and big dynamic hits, with some super-deep stuff you can feel, through to some 'woah!' hits Couldn't really turn it up as downstairs was in, so will be rewatched at a suitable point! Acting/story was slightly cheesy/cliché at times but the history behind the story and the ending was sobering. Overall, worth a rental or cheap buy, definitely.
  13. Thanks very much for your detailed reply If there is a choice then I guess one could listen to one track then re-watch the film with the other track, to see which is better / more preferred, but that does take quite a lot of time... lol I think I will look through my collection and see if I have any that have a choice of audio tracks, and will spend some time doing some comparisons, perhaps! Sweet! I will look forward to it, thanks for doing it for us
  14. I am still confused which I should be choosing if there are different mixes on a disk My AVR defaults to DTS-HD Master if it's an option, but I watched something the other night in PCM Lossless rather than the other, dolby digital 5.1 mix on the disk, and I think it sounded better than the DD option when switching between them. Which is 'better'??
  15. I re-watched this yesterday morning at anywhere between -6 and Reference to get my pre-work bass hit Has some great depth, loads deeper than just about any other music track I've heard, bar bass test tracks!
  16. Cool, cheers for the link I meant scare as in they won't be expecting a massive hit of sofa-rumbling bass if it's mainly a speech movie
  17. Is that this one? http://www.amazon.com/The-Terror-Live-Blu-ray-Region/dp/B00HSJHJD2/ I can't find it on Amazon UK! Ooh, that looks like a prime 'surprise' disc for scaring unsuspecting visitors with
  18. I can't find this on Amazon.co.uk - is it this one? http://www.amazon.com/Disneynature-Bears-Two-Disc-Blu-ray-Combo/dp/B00GPWERCO/
