No they are not out yet. Probably going to be a while until they are out. Ricci is always busy with a 1000 things. BUT he did say you could just cut the design down the middle and have a single version. SO I have been simulating that and trying to decide between that design and the large ported.

Single version would be sweet. Would make it pretty HT appropriate (for me at least)

Thanks for helping out! These are the prices from the shop I'm buying. They also use a pretty hefty discount when buying several items (so another advantage when buying cheap but more). I do intend to build 2 of them, but budget wont stretch enough yet to allow 4x of the more expensive (SW152 etc) drivers. If I do decide to build them, they would only be used don to 20-25hz tops, they are not intended for HT.

PS know I have you here, what about non-PA drivers? I already have 2x 1hefty 18" subs in my HT, which are sealed so not really appropriate for PA use, but it would be cool to be able to put them in a SKhorn cab when needed (maybe a lot of work but oh well). I have the Sundown Audio ZV4 18D2 drivers.

I looked at trying to build a single driver version also for my living room. Tried to see if I could get the design to not get too big but perform similar to the 21DS115 in 350l 15hz.

Are the plans for the single version out there? Cause that would make moving them a lot easier.

The 18PZB100 doesnt look bad at all in the Skhorn. It rolls off earlier than the 21SW152 but only a few hz. But is very flat similar to the 21SW152. The 21/18TSAD does not look very good at all in this design. BUT all the rest of the BL monsters that Ricci mentioned do look good.

Oh, great! In the (far / hypothetical) planning stages of building something like the SK-, Gjaller- or Othorn, and a SKhorn with 2x of those ridiculously cheap (240eu) drivers would be a winner I think  (extension, availability and price. Also the option to upgrade the drivers one day would a +). On what do you base this responses? Are there some graphs out there? I can get almost all B&C drivers for very cheap (and with great discounts), so if I could compare them that would be pretty practical.

All of these drivers look serviceable to varying degrees. There are more I'm sure but I didn't simulate everything on the market.

    B&C 18PZB100

    B&C 18NW100

    B&C 18RBX100

    Faital 18XL1600

    18 Sound 18LW2500

    B&C 18SW115

    18 Sound 18NLW9601 / 9600 / 9600C

    TC Sounds Pro-5100

    B&C 21DS115

    18 Sound 21NLW9601 /9600 / 9000C

    B&C 21SW152

    B&C 21SW150

    18Sound 21ID

    B&C 21IPAL

    Funk TSAD-21v2 & UH21 :o

How would the cheaper drivers (like the B&C 18PZB100) change the response? I'm guessing it will probably affect the lower end the most?

  6. None of my friends believe the fact that commercial cinemas lack heavily in their bass. Even my old Klipsch 12" sub gave more punch (in my extremely small room of course) than out local theatre. We do however not have any commercial Atmos/IMAX/.. rooms in our area, thats why I'm taking a train to go and see if our "national" IMAX room does it better.

About that EQ mixing, is it complex? I think I would like to try that out for certain movies (The Dark Knight, LOTR Trilogy, and few others come to mind) to ensure the best experience.

The point of those demos is to demo Atmos. ;)

Well I'm looking for the best combination! A 4K HDR OLED styled demo (as in: scenes that specifically show the power of true black, mixed with gorgeous colours and extremely high resolution), with an Atmos mix made to showcase the ingenuousness of an 11 surround (and good sounding audio if at all possible in this kind of mixes) and last but not least, some high level ULF. That way I could just demo one "one-in-all"  clip. I got some pretty neat perfect black clips (something from LG showcasing flowers on a black background, crazy resolution ö), an amazing HDR clip (sony bravia OLED demo clip) and the Atmos demos for Atmos (duh). Now I just need some good good ULF clips and I'm (almost) done hehe.

    Hogwash.

It only seems like a "trend" because audio enthusiasts started graphing bass when things started to get interesting and the industry has reeled back, for the most part, since. Look at it another way and bass content in film <25hz is the exception rather than the rule. For every "filtered" new movie there is one or more that isn't. Also depends on what bandwidth of movie titles you consume.

Fortunately, the trend with newer movies is better surround mixes but we don't talk about that here. :P

I only got into ULF a few days ago, so I'm hoping to form up my own opinion about movies. I'm actually more a TV show watcher, watching (a literal) 124 TV-shows at the moment.. But moveies are sooooo much more rewarding once you have a good surround/sound system. The bass in TV shows is really lacking :( The Punisher does use some extensive bass, although I doubt it is ULF.

    Agreed with @maxmercy list there.

Both Dunkirk and Jedi will not be great titles to test <20hz content, imo. They will both have powerful bass but >20hz (which isn't a bad thing).

I can think of a handful of "scenes" to test out for true ULF.

Entering the Grid - Tron Legacy

Elysium - laser templates being cycled through before cutting into Bugattipod

Captain America: Winter Solider - vending machine

    Hurt Locker - M2 .50cal scene

Lone Survivor - the whole Chinook sequence

Edge of Tomorrow - opening title ULF

    Dredd - interrogation scene

Pulse - server scene (~18hz but sustained, trip dem breakers!)

    and more

Well I didnt pick them because of their bass content, but because liked them very much, and they have gorgeous visuals :) I did however notice the lack of true subbass content, so good to know it's the films themselves, and not my system. I see Captain America: Winter Soldier is up there on the list, and oh boy what a coincidence! I was gonna watch that one with my 2 little brothers (10 and 12yo) in preparation of infinity war. Thanks for the scene list, will see if I can get my hands on some of those titles.

Does anyone know how much ULF content the Dolby Atmos demo discs features? That is one impressive list of clips (surround wise).. My brothers jaw literally dropped on the floor. It's my new number 1 clip. The ULF did seem amazing in it. Can I measure this myself? I have an UMIK-1 but I have no idea how to measure something like that. The clips are only 30 seconds long most of the time.

Also, any song recommendations for ULF?

  9. Recently finished my first of 2 infrasound subs (Sundown Audio ZV4 18D2 in a 160L sealed enclosure), so I was hoping to get some suggestions on some good soundtracks/songs too test the sub 20hz content. Some movies I'll be testing soon: Dunkirk 4K HDR 5.1, Star Wars The Last Jedi 4K HDR Atmos. Any film out there which is ridiculously good to test my system (11.2 Atmos with a 4K HDR OLED)? I'm gonna rewatch Hacksaw Ridge again soon too, as I've read some things about that one particular artillery scene. Also planning a full rewatch of the LOTR trilogy soon, so if there are particular scenes in there known for good bass, I'm eager to hear it.

  10. Does anyone have any suggestions for a high efficiency 12" to use in a 2 way. Should cross at 500hz and dip down to 60hz. Box should be as small as possible (max 40cm d x 48cm h and max 80cm width). Maybe a double 12" as the plan is to couple them with a Faital Pro HF200 driver with 109db spl. It's not a problem that they are not completely matched as it's for height channels. Budget is not high (max 100-150eu), otherwise it's not worth doing.

Something like an eminence 12" pro woofer would do, but was hoping to get some other suggestions too.

Hhahahahaha! Sorry I'm not laughing at you at all. It's just that I can't even get time to build my own cabs anymore. I pay someone else to do it.

That said there are people out there who can do this type of work and will for the right amount of money.

Anyway welcome to the forum. :)

Just out of interest (who knows what the future brings), how many man hours did you have to pay for the horns you had build? With these plans on a first build.
