  1. The new Total Recall seems to have some very deep enjoyable bass.  I just watched it last night.  Multiple bass drop sine waves, throbbing deep stuff for the building sized taxi that goes through the center of the earth.  There is a very good sense of audio/bass weight in the movie to the big machinery.

That was a great one and your perceptions are spot on. Another one that is just incredible in the deep bass that many people likely miss is Elysium. Watch that bad boy and tell me you don't get some great stuff that registers very low :D

  2. Which Panasonic are you using, Shred?

I think I was with you till 'velocity potential' lol

Is that in specific reference to nearfield subs??

Regardless, 125dB of bass is pretty bonkers - I've had an indicated 126dB measured (close-mic'd) on a Radioshack SPL Meter thingy, giving an indicated 119dB at the seats, and I reckon it really is not something that anyone could realistically get away with unless in a detached house with good insulation properties or neighbours a long way away!!  I managed about 10 minutes of the opening of Art of Flight before I was scared the neighbours in the next block of apartments were going to call the cops :lol:

I get away with 125dB of bass on a nightly basis :D Bosso and Paul will attest, it is perfectly quiet outside my house at those levels so long as all the doors are shut.

  3. The fan mod is cake. they both actually mount to a metal piece that you detach with 3 screws. The fans have a termination plug that inserts into the board. I simply cut the wires off close to the old fan, and rewired the plugs to the new fans and shrink-wrapped the connection.  fc7c3b49_IMG_3408.jpeg

And here is the link to the fans you would need to install for quiet operation. There is also a smaller fan that helps circulate the air as it passes through the amp. I simply unplugged this one.

  4. The crest pro-lite 7.5 is strikingly similar to the peavey 7500. Honestly I run both and while the peavey looks a little cleaner and doesn't have those blinding blue lights, short of a bank of caps being upgraded to 1100uF from 600uF, there really is no major differences. The fans you most definitely will want to switch out on either model, as they share the same fans, and are both quite loud if in the same room.

  5. The "Bottom Octave" for most film production and playback venues (mainly equipped w/ high efficiency 18s in vented enclosures) is 25-50Hz.

Well aware of that. I was going off of what FM popped in and said to the guys on avs. As he said himself:

There is no filter on the 5.1 master for HT.

    I didn't "mess" it up. smile.gif

I took that as no HPF, in context that was exactly what it would seem Marc was referring to.

  6. Ha! Man, I sourced this other stuff this fall from a landscaper I know and it puts that scott stuff to SHAME. My lawn is still green even after a solid week of below freezing temps. I still have lots of work to do, but it is looking better than it ever has at this point of the winter...

  7. The 24 was in the exact box that you apparently just received! I would suggest if you are able to, double up on that front baffle if at all possible. I built that out of wood I had left-over from my corinthian buildout and didn't have enough to double up. There is certainly room to stick some ports. likely in each corner. The internal bracing is:

We were definitely not trying to absolutely kill the 24 that day, as Austin had plans to take it and his other one to Qatar with him when he left last fall. We were literally just trying to find the limits of the sub, but not attempt to do permanent damage. We certainly could have easily killed it, but excursion limits in a 15 cuft sealed box with standard dubking content proved to be futile. Austin is actually doing a 35cuft or so ported build as we speak, tuned to near 11hz IIRC. One box will be behind his couch and the other under his TV. Should provide for a pretty fun/intense experience.

  8. Yea that was me, and bosso, paul, popalock (it was his driver), Nick from SI, etc. It was fun. We certainly had some voltage drop but it likely wasn't too terribly much, we just weren't running sine waves :D I had that amp on a dedicated 30a 120v so it was probably chugging along just fine...

  9. Is that when the plane flips and then right after you get a couple of puffs of wind hitting you?  I have not tried that scene in a while and not since my new sub system.

Yes, right after the barrel roll, there is that strong 30hz drone then there is a little whop-whop-whop that is much lower. I get that feeling in spades and it makes the hair on my head stand up when that happens. It's awesome.

  10. Marchand BASSIS and Bossobass SEQSS MKII:

You can stop flexing your mettle now Dave :) Haha. So between the marantz, Mini, and Oppo (which I need to buy), I guess I would be looking at a pretty solid signal chain. The only other variable is the crest 7.5 but I know that has been tested as pretty flat to 2-3hz. Guess that shows pretty well in the speclab measurements we did that day :)
