user
Hi all, I have a couple questions on this topic: 1) Are there certain hz on the results table that you found to be associated with sensations of impact or punch from the subwoofer, as opposed to merely rumble? (I have read reports in the ranges of 35hz, 50hz, 60hz, 70hz.) 2) What minimal dB at the listening position was necessary for creating this effect? Or, what is your peak dB at your listening position, and how much impact have you felt? Your valuable experiences would be appreciated, thanks! maxmercy
1) Yes, it has to do with chest cavity resonance, and secondarily to any seating resonance. Usually found in the 50-200Hz range. 2) In my experience, 95+ dB is necessary for the true 'mule kick' effect. 105dB for a quite impressive impact. Well-done audio at an outdoor concert is the best thing to compare to. Good 'kick' is hard to do indoors, especially in a small room. Measure, Measure, Measure. Have enough speaker, but more importantly, Fix the room, or re-arrange the room. You cannot correct time with amplitude. EQ can only do so much for you.
