Mark Dalquist
I know Ricci has tested both if these drivers raw. On paper they look very very similar, possibly the JBL having higher xmech but xmax is listed as the same. What are your thoughts of the differences of these two drivers? Is there any other "pro" style 18 that can run with these? Curious on your thoughts.
peniku8
Unless you're after the low Fs, the 18IPAL would probably be your best bet. More Xmax, more power, much lower Qts...

Looking at the B&C iPal 18, it has 20mm xmax so pretty comparable there, Qts is .14 iPal vs .352 JBL and .357 for the BMS so yes the QTs is quite a bit lower. peniku8
The driver was designed for the IPAL feedback loop system, which meant is was basically overengineered, especially in terms of motor force. That happens to make for a really good driver which works great in usually undersized cabinets. You need the amp and the sensor to take full advantage of the IPAL system, but you don't need the amp to take advantage of the driver. Specs are specs, so you can pretty much compare apples to apples here.
Ricci
Both of these drivers are really good. The 18Ipal has similar xmax. It's basically a dead heat in that department. The BMS probably has the lowest functional power handling due to the lightest, smallest voice coil. The 18Ipal is the most efficient (lowest Qts)
