lukeamdman
That should speed things up a bit! Read that you weren't making it to the GTG Luke. That's disappointing but I'm sure there'll be another time. Best wishes man. Thanks man!
Rowan611
Argggg...I can't leave the finish like this. I'm going to end up using the duratex roller, BUT, I'm going to take a page out of Mike's book. He first coated his THT with a flat black latex paint and then just a single coat of duratex was enough. Does the finish look that bad Luke? Ricci
Unfortunately yes. It's pretty bad. It won't matter in a dark room after that screen wall.
lukeamdman
It won't matter in a dark room after that screen wall. The top and front were covered using the duratex roller, and that right side is how they used to look: I didn't care much for the zebra effect. 3ll3d00d
perhaps try it again with your eyeballs wobbling from the 140+dB, it might be quite hypnotic at that point

Rowan611
Looks darn good Luke. The more I see those roundovers in the ports, the more I like them.
dsl1
I could have cut your speakon connector out too, way to not include it in your sketchup files!
lukeamdman
I could have cut your speakon connector out too, way to not include it in your sketchup files! That changes depending on if the box is on top or bottom and also which direction it faces, so I'll just take care of those
Ricci
What are you going to do with the old cabs?
lukeamdman
What are you going to do with the old cabs? Probably just sell them.
lukeamdman
After adding the bracing and stuffing the impedance minimum is still around 13.8hz. The box vibrates a lot less now, so the extra bracing was definitely worth it.
lukeamdman
Here's a measurement from the DO cab on the bottom left vs. two of the ported cabs wired in parallel on the right. DCR is the same. I've double and triple checked all gains and settings. No EQ or XOs. That's just shy of a 14db difference at 13hz.
Ricci
Where we at Luke? Any news? BTW next time if ever you need to do a comparison like that just get out the DMM and check the voltage. That way you know. Are you going to fire the vents and drivers towards the center like in the pic above? You might get more gain and a flatter result firing into the wall. I have all the MDF for the next two cabs and actually had some free evenings last week that I could work on them, but I got absolutely destroyed by kidney stones. Today I'm feeling better and have some energy again but I'll be out of town for the rest of the week. Next week I'll try and get two more finished. Infrasonic
Ugh, man. That does suck. Sorry to hear. Man... stones suck! Guess that's what happens when you try and leave the sealed sub world and go back to the resonant world. You get kidney stones. Happened to Rob, now you. Who's next?!?! But seriously. Hope you feel better soon.

Happened to Rob, now you. Who's next?!?!" Uh oh.... I never went with a "proper" sealed sub setup though, so I should be OK, right??? Sorry to hear about the kidney stones Luke, hope you get well quickly.
Infrasonic
I left "proper" out so you're okay. Or not okay. Go for stones!
lukeamdman
I bought the remaining MDF for the last 6 boxes and made 89 passes on the table saw yesterday...I'm starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Infrasonic
Seems like it never ends... Btw, how many of these are up and running or do you still have the sealed system up?

I have two of the ported subs and two DO subs in the room. It's been nice to instantly switch back and forth with the MiniDSP to compare them. lukeamdman
Six boxes worth of cuts (minus the 12 baffles that dsl1 CNC'd) stacked in the order of assembly: Here's how far I can get in about 1.5 hours:
