  1. Ok so the people getting all excited saying this was "twice as loud as anything else recorded" weren't actually exaggerating all that much? How is it possible there is headroom for this kind of thing? Haven't you already measured discs that are maxed out, like the Skyfall subway crash. I thought that was at the limit, like 0db. I see on the graph the peak at 10hz is about -8db, does that mean there's another 8db in the tank?
  2. Wish I knew how to recone!
  3. Is it possible your soundcard calibration is over compensating for DC roll off or something? There seems to be a lot of movies with big DC spikes that just don't make sense. Unless perhaps there is a lot of DC noise in recording devices that the studios use... I enjoyed limitless. Can't remember what the sound was like though. Dynamic does seem to ring a bell deep in my audio memory. I'll refrain from voting as I just can't remember.
  4. You don't seem all that enthusiastic about these two exciting titles nube. The numbers are misleading compared to the real experience?
  5. War Horse? I don't remember that one at all. Weird. Your old posts say the movie is sappy and you couldn't even get through it. Is that still true? Great bass is great, but useless if the movie isn't worth watching.
  6. I'm the same way just because I don't get to watch movies often it seems. So when I get a chance, the movie is old. Oh well, sometimes I do.
  7. Jonam. Did you find golden eye had good bass? I did not. Rewatching it years later was a kick in the teeth for the good memories I had of that movie.
  8. Yes, the upcoming releases look pitiful. However both those have me very interested. I'm hoping for good bass from these along with good reviews, because I'd like to finally be able to buy a movie. It's been months. I've become exceptionally picky about what I buy. If the studios want my money they need to stop screwing around.
  9. Yes! This one is fun. I liked the movie too (ya, some cheesy stuff). I asked MK theatre to do some measurements of the SUV crash into the river some time ago. It didn't have much ULF, but sure feels like it. Maybe Mk's setup wasn't quite tuned up right at the time. Good bass movie.
  10. I mentioned this a while back in this thread. It was terrible. As a big fan of this when it came out, rewatching it years later on a proper system was a major let down. I just blamed it on the era.
  11. That actually seems like not a bad idea. Something physical in their hands might at least alert them to the fact that there are people who care about this. I'd chip in.
  12. So what's the best way to have our voice heard? I've been occasionally posting that I won't buy certain titles (like The Hobbit) based soley on the high pass filter, but I don't think that really gets anywhere. Are we destined to just accept mediocre results and be pleasantly surprised when the results are good?
  13. Thanks nube. I liked mega mind. Never saw Kung Fu Panda. I'll have to give mega mind another spin with the kids, maybe this weekend.
  14. I can believe that OHF scene. I haven't seen most of these.
  15. One of my Behringer ecm8000s has a 30hz roll off. And the industry doesn't necessary use more accurate mics than that. A lot of mics used to capture voices and such have a very high roll off. So I say their equipment would likely be of such low 'quality'.
  16. I'd say it looks like it has useful content down to 25hz and a whif of content to 10hz. The odd peak centered near 37hz makes it look worse than it is. Still, doesn't look great...
  17. So what is that flicker at 1hz? Who can reproduce that. I know we take exception to people who claim ULF is unintentional junk data on the disc, but maybe this actually is?
  18. Thanks bmoney. Dang, I didnt think it would bother me all that much. But it is like listening to mp3s...
  19. I watched escape plan while off sick for work today. I can't say there was much impressive bass. The whole sound mix in general was a little blah. And the level was to low (and I rarely say that). But then it occurred to me, this was a redbox rental. Did I get burned by the lossy format getting put on the rental disc? I returned it before I could find out. I haven't voted on execution because I need to factor this in but unsure what I actually heard.
  20. I watched Rush last night. Really impressive dynamics. I enjoyed the race scenes immensely. The only really noticeable ULF for me was just after THE crash there's a waft of flames and the sound design did this nice wafting of sound over my room with the flames. Make the house creak otherwise it may have blended into the scene even more and gone unnoticed. Which would have been a good thing actually. The rest of the extension is there, but just so well balanced with the snapping engines and squawking tires that its really not attention grabbing, in such a very very good way. This is the kind of sound mix I put so much effort into my HT for. Mind you, I'm a gear head so that made it extra special for me. WAF alert, the boobs and excessive swearing lessened the experience for me because my wife is really not into that stuff. If that's the same for your household, beware there's several boob scenes and a whole lot of f bombs and such.
  21. Ah ya, that makes sense. I to have become quite critical of what I buy based on stupid shenanigans the studios pull.
