  1. Sweet! I was just going to ask about Pearl Harbor. Running Scared is a good one too. A real sleeper. Everyone should watch it if they haven't. Another one to add to the list if it wasn't already: The Day After Tomorrow.
  2. I hate to say it but unfortunately by today's standards it would best to rate for 4 stars because of the rolloff. Ten years ago it would easily be 5 stars all around.
  3. "but I can only take so much of Gollum, Frodo and Sam before I have to fight the urge to vomit." Glad I'm not the only one.
  4. DAAAVVVEEE!! Glad to see you're back and doing well. Dude, nice upgrade! Still projector though, huh? Those Mitsu DLP's look suhweet though. I see you got a dual-Raven, dual-Blackbird system. Rockin'. What is that I spy on top of the BB? I really like the new seating. That type of chair and the style of your riser is almost exactly what I want to do in my room but I'm not sure if I'll have the room or not for a second row with a riser. Still.... looking good and glad you're back.
  5. Fantastic results on all! You couldn't get me to suggest any less than 5 for Cloverfield though. That's one of my personal favorites.
  6. I'd say a 'Rent' as it's a pretty good bass flick, almost constant bass, but not excellent. It's not a movie for everybody. Execution would be ~4 from me. I thought it was well done, decent dynamics, usage and extension. Throbbing soundtrack. It is what it is.
  7. Trust me. I know all these things about DSX expansion. I even argued about it with a fellow AVS member here at CES just yesterday. I'm only going off what I heard and with what little experience I've had using DSX wides. So far I've only watched two movies: Looper and Dredd. Dredd just so happens to be 'optimized for NEO-X 11.1' which I understand is not the same thing. However I feel that either that or just being a really nice 7.1 mix gave some edge using the wides. Obviously this is new and I'll have to try more movies before I can form a more concrete opinion on it but so far, the effect is winning. I'm all for the end user experience and I get that a lot of people hate the idea of post processing and/or DSP effects. Imho, if the effect works then it works and that's that. I have a very small room (~2,000cuft) and it's quite narrow. If I can get the effect of a larger acoustic experience without it sound awful in some way, I'm going for it. Soo... for now, that's that. I'll continue to test out the effect with some older titles as long as I have the time for it. Lol, I'll try not to gunk up this thread about it though. If you or any others are curious about it, feel free to PM me. The mega speaker project is still a go. Only a couple things are holding me from installing it immediately. As far as getting all the gear, I basically have it all. I just have to wrap up a couple things. I don't think a star should be taken away in that area. Imo, the 'exectution' was terrific. If there is a place where the star should be taken away might be in level or something. Honestly, I thought all the areas were hit properly. It's certainly no WotW but it is a rather excellent bass flick. The bass just isn't around often enough and maybe that's the real fault. Dredd on the other hand..... whew!
  8. Just finished watching Dredd. Wwwwooowwwwweeeeee! The bass (and the entire surround mix) was extremely good! The whole soundtrack had a pounding bass score and it hit deep. There was also quite a few scenes with sustained deep bass. It's hard to tell or not if it had bass below 10hz and how much but I can't see this one being any lower than a solid 4.25-4.5 but I would even go so far as to say it should be a 5. If the surround mix was included and this were a review site that included that, it would be. For sure. Max, you have got to get 7.1 or higher now. These mixes are soo expansive, aggressive and immersive. On a related note, I just started using 'wides' this week starting with Looper. I'm totally sold on wides and I have a narrow room, even. It really works and makes the front stage huge and the pans to the sides even smoother.
  9. Hahah! I just watched it too (rifftrax). Definitely worth graphing for bass. The 5.1 mix is rather good too. Aha! I knew Looper had the goods. Even with limited extension at the cinema I can just tell somehow. No highpass filters at my place maybe? Good f**kin' times! Max, do you mind explaining the LeqZ and RMS things in the Looper chart? Thanks.
  10. Extremely decent low end on a terrible remake. Then we get this... the balls effectively cut off a monster track. The lossless track is very good though. An even better ultimate cut would be the mux the LFE track from the dvd to the lossless track of the BD. The video was average but I guess better than a dvd. So sad. Can't wait to see the comparison between this and the dvd.
  11. Ooo, yeah. Forgot about that one. We should graph Hot Fuzz. Also, DareDevil and Gamer would be good candidates.
  12. The first Matrix is definitely a product of the age. 30hz extension that tapers off. Always liked the bass from the sequels. Lots of stuff that goes down deep. Great stuff guys.
  13. Also on sale on Amazon for $275! A pure steal for Amazon Prime members.... like me.
  14. Oh wow. You really out did yourself on the star rating thing. I was thinking moreso anything that was 4-4.75 and on and on but... alright. LOL @ Avengers being a the very bottom of the list. One would think we had some agenda around here.
  15. Mild and easy suggestion? Now that we have quite a few documented DB waterfalls, I think post #1 should be updated to list the movie link categorized in star number form. 5 star movies, 4-4.75 movies, 3-3.75 movies, etc. That way at a glance someone could look for the best of the best or just see what the movie they wanted to know about got listed as. Lol. Sorry to ask for such but if it's something I could do, I'd do it but I can't edit other peoples posts.
  16. Those numbers from Behringer are inaccurate and false. The numbers I posted are the TRUE power output numbers. But yeah, the Crown weighs a whole lot less.
  17. Max, that's so weird! I never saw your SR report until today. Blah. I feel dumb. Oh well. Not bad results. Thanks!
  18. Decent if you need the DSP. If not, I'd go with the Behringer ep4000 which outputs 450w at 8ohms, 600w at 4ohms an 800w 2ohms. Bridged to 1,600w at 4ohm.
