  1. The T-6 has been all but deprecated. I have a newer design in advanced beta that is an improvement in many ways.
  2. Two unused/lightly-used WT2s? Damn... You guys need to spend more time measuring junk and less time listening to it, thought this was a DIY sort of forum. Wait - that's not right... Seriously, thanks for the offers. I just picked up Josh's. If mine ever comes back (and it is looking like it may, based on an email I got last night), I'll pass Josh's along to a friend that needs one.
  3. Eh, it is what it is. I tried to help a guy, didn't work out so well. Maybe it comes back, maybe it doesn't. I sent it off knowing that I might not see it back. I don't miss the DATS (it is a POS), but I have missed the WT2 a couple times.
  4. Nope, not you. I received my gear back from you in good order. I checked it out, then sent it (and another piece of gear) to someone else that needed to measure impedance and T/S Parameters. Might get it back, might not. At this point, odds are not in my favor, as it has been months and I've not heard anything positive. Oh well. It will work out or it won't, but I'll never put myself in this spot again. Sorta sad, but once past the principles involved, it is not a lot of money.
  5. Thanks Josh. I'm hoping mine gets returned some day.
  6. As my WT2 is MIA (I should know better...) I'm interested if it is still available.
  7. Don't hold your breath waiting for me to get this done in the short term. I'm in the midst of (re)building my house, among other things. Sounds like you've got a full plate too, I look forward to seeing the results.
  8. Rut ro.... I need to spend less time on eBay.... For those of you that don't know what this is, it is a laser displacement meter, accurate to a few hundredths of a mm through a 50 mm (+/- 25 mm) range. This, plus ARTA (which I already have), my reference USB sound card, a burly amp (of which I have several), a calibrated mic (again, several on hand), and the cables and brackets to put it all together makes for a more than passable poor-boy's Klippel. I also scored a slightly less accurate, but much larger range Banner L-gage, that one is +/- 100 mm with an accuracy of a few mm. It cost me $20 less than this one. The nice thing about the Banner units is that like the Baumer unit that ARTA recommends, they are controllerless, you can just add power and get output, unlike the Keyence ones. Now I just need the time to put it all together and let the smoke out of some drivers.
  9. Man - you get to play with all the big toys... Sooo jealous.... My checkbook says I can only play with pea shooters, but I do have some of those on hand to play with. I'll be testing the Sundown Ev2 10s soon. For the money, they're a meaty driver. Lots of motor, decent clearances, and they look to be well-built. I hope that the specs I get are similar to the published ones, if so they'll be a great little driver for an 8 cubic-foot tapped horn I have drawn up.
  10. I had a bit of help, I probably wouldn't have heard about it as quickly otherwise, but I do pay attention to patents, as one can learn a lot from them. Also used to spend a LOT more time talking speakers than I do now. Was hoping I'd see Kyle's patent put to good use sooner rather than later, because it is a FANTASTIC idea. Simply put, Kyle has "fixed" several of the issues with LMS coil and motor. Hoping that we can see the state of the art take a step forward, and sounds like there have been a few significant steps with this one. Also thrilled that there is some R&D taking place at TC.
  11. Here's to hoping that the LMS-R2 has a bit of motor innovation I read about a while ago. Fingers crossed here too, I would love to see the state of the art advanced.
  12. They're not cheap, but have you looked at the new Fi SP4 and Team series at all? Basically, they look like Fi motors on TC baskets. I'd love to see a Klippell of the motor linearity. As far as pro drivers? Some of the new B&C drivers look pretty nice, but the good ones have price tags that match their specs...
  13. It's just cool cause it is real. Honestly - had no idea there was bass in it, certainly didn't expect any, that's why I left the sub switched off.
  14. That makes complete sense. A testing day is long enough without adding in high power impedance. Glad I don't "need" the VI box. I want to measure impedance at more than flea-power levels though - the shifts with increasing displacement may help explain the changes in observed frequency response. I can do that with a homemade rig though, I have several of those now. I'll adjust a few things next time I test a cabinet, then share the data with you. Hope I can provide enough to work with.
  15. As I'm in the early part of a remodel project that will consume every spare dollar I have for the next 4 years or so, I can't drop the coin on the software at the moment. If I recall - you use some custom scripts and a graphics and acquisition package that looks super cool. I have mics and an SPL calibrator. I don't have a VI box, so no high-power impedance sweeps. As far as amps, what I have is bigger than the drivers I own, but to be honest - that isn't saying all that much. Definitely interested in the formatting, as well as adjusting my technique to more closely parallel what you're doing though. We can take this to email s or PMs to discuss the protocols if you want. I'm not going to me measuring much any time soon though. I've read the "know-How" section of the site, so it looks like I'm on the right track, with just a few adjustments needed.
  16. While I don't have the gear Josh has, I wrung out the LilWrecker pretty well in testing. I beat up the F-20 pretty well too. Compared to those two, I have literally pounded on the MicroWrecker, but I haven't measured "good" data yet. The MicroWrecker test mule has been through 4 separate days of measurements, each one taking it to well past the driver's thermal limit. Thus far, there have been issues with the temperature or the setting (or both), or something went wrong with the electronics. No data I'd hang my hat on just yet. Josh and I have shared some data along the way. Unfortunately, nothing I do is really useful on this site. We use different gear and we use different methodologies in testing. Though I could change my approach to match what Josh does, I can't exactly afford the gear and software he uses, and even if I did, there would still be variations due to other factors, like elevation and measurement setting, cause I'm nowhere near Louisville. I'd be happy to adjust my approach in my future measurements to more closely parallel what Josh does if anyone thinks there's a benefit. CEA distortion testing is something I'd like to add, but so far, implementing it in REW is a bit cumbersome. As far as the other items? It's not too hard to adjust the drive level to measure 1 watt into the DCR, and I can certainly measure at 2M groundplane. One of these days, I will get back out to my shop, uncover the speaker-making tools, and start on my new builds. Lots of ideas...
  17. Yeah... Someone is supposed to follow that list? Might as well be me.... LilMike's transitional "HT"... as currently stacked up in my as yet unfinished basement theater..... Equipment: Home Theater PC: Handles some recorded TV, Music, and DVD/BD - will be rebuilt/reloaded when the rest of the system is done Roku: Streaming media - not plugged in TiVo Mini: Live/recorded Cable TV - not plugged in, cause I have no Internet or Cable wiring yet Denon AVR3312 - off for warranty repairs, likely will be used upstairs Planned Receiver Pre/Pro??? No idea ATM, will purchase this at the same time as the projector. Media Server: WHS2011, Media Browser, and Drive Bender-based, 30 TB storage array, all in a 4U case Amps for L, C, and R: TBD, considering several options ...more blanks than spaces filled here... Speakers: Econowaves: 10" MCM midbasses, Pyle 612 waveguides, and Selenium CDs (yup - more bottom shelf gear) in 1.5 CF sealed boxes. ...and... I only have three of them, all stacked up nicely in the corner at the moment, not even plugged in. For the parts involved, and the dollars spent, I can't really complain. I think I spent more on crossover parts than drivers. Planned Mains: DIY 60X90 Unity horns between a pair of ported 15s for the L, C, and R. Planned Surrounds: Ported 10" coaxials Existing Sub: MicroWrecker: one of my tapped horns, basically has a similar response to Josh's Gjallarhorn, but uses a Kicker CVX, and is only a 20 cubic foot cabinet. An X-ray of the fold is my avatar pic. Likely gonna get sent out to the shop, might pull the driver and scrap the cabinet. Planned Subs: ~30 cubic foot, 15 Hz tune, 35mm linear/50mm peak 4-inch coil 18 loaded tapped horns. Sub Amp: iNuke 3000 DSP with a fan mod and remote switching, sitting unused in the stack of my other gear gathering dust at the moment Voice coil vaporizers: 2X Klein & Hummel KPA2400 (rebadged Powersoft K10) with a dedicated 240V/30A circuit to each. Currently safely tucked in their boxes, patiently waiting to come out and play. Display: 42" Panny Plasma. Yup - it is small. It is old too, so the blacks are now a lovely gray. It is also 720P, and it weighs nearly as much as my truck. It's from 2006, so yeah, it just finished the third grade. Time for a new TV??? I think maybe... Planned: 120" 16X9 DIY AT screen 1080P LCD Projector to be determined And - for those that don't know the rest of the story.... this is a completely transitional system. While I've moved out of the basement I have been living in, I am not quite living in my place yet. I am currently living in someone else's extra room while I work on finishing up my place. The rebuild includes a decently-sized dedicated theater. Sure, it is a touch smaller than I'd like, but at 11X17, it is one of the largest separate spaces in the house. Since two walls are 90% underground, and all have been given some acoustic treatment, it is also one of the quietest. I measured a noise floor of ~38 dB a few days ago. When the industrial activity at the Port of Tacoma stops and everything is turned off in the house, I'm in the high 20s. So, um, yeah, it has been more than a couple years since I touched this list...but the project is well underway and the end is in sight. I'm not quite to the point where I can live in the house, but I am there till past dark each night working on it. Cool stuff coming.
  18. Oh come on now - it's a good watch. I own it.... The actual movie may not suit everyone, but it definitely has a surprising amount of bottom end. Kept my lil pea-shooters working for the whole movie.
  19. Wow. This is fantastic work. Step away for a few weeks, and look what happens. Thank you all for your efforts!
  20. Any ideas about how to test amp bandwidth? Was thinking I could use water heater elements wired up to create a high-capacity resistive load, then use REW to sweep things. Just need enough attenuation in my test leads so that I don't fry my sound card.... Am I nuts?? Will this approach be valid?
