Ugh, yea, I felt the LFE in my room......I even power cycled the Crest on the CA scene. WHA?!?!? Yea, shut the bugger down! On a scene that most people don't even know exists..... I think Paul is working on getting that one capped for everyone to see. It aint on the regular thread, I will tell you that much Man, Dave's floor ripple is one for the books to say the least. The experience you get with the ultra low stuff down below 10hz is unreal. I will make sure my next home has a 6hz tuned room....haha! Ok so on to my review. Upon arriving, we all say around and it was great to just catch up and talk audio. I think that singular event is what is always forgotten from g2g's....The chatting and hanging out. We literally spent the first hour just shooting the bull and talking audio. It's one of my favorite parts of any g2g. The information and knowledge one can glean from these times is priceless, and at least for this g2g, we had a pretty darn sharp group of guys. All of which have been around and have MUCH more experience with woofer design than I, so it was an absolute blast to just be a part of it. So onto the next chapter, loading the 70 pound HST-15's into a raptor enclosure....No fingers were injured, although it wasn't looking too good at first. After getting everything wired up and ready to rock, I spent some time admiring the other raptor III systems Dave had brought up and installed for the g2g that day. I know others have already said it, but the craftsmanship that Dave and Paul have put into these enclosures has no parallel. The attention to detail design choices made make the raptors happy in just about any room one would want to put them in. The bamboo was just freakin' gorgeous. If I didn't have a capable setup already, Dave would have waved bye to me with a nice check in his other hand It's not to say I won't be doing a lil' sumpin er another here in the near future anyways :wink wink: Anyways, I could spend months in my garage attempting to get that nice of a finish, kudos there! To top all that off, the a14-k is an absolute MONSTER.....That amp was doing this to those subs that was just downright illegal, but the good news is, the subs took it all in stride 16-15's? Check please! Now for the food. Mrs. BossoBass aka Virginia aka the MOST understanding and fantastic bass enabler around. My wife lets me cut it loose pretty much anytime I want to, but with what we were doing to that house two days ago, I would have had to send my better half off to the spa or something to shield her from what was going down. Ignorance is bliss right? Virginia was almost giggling at what we were doing. I love that, and I loved the green beans and mac n cheese even more What an incredible spread, and no, I didn't hesitate one bit to be the first in line! Haha Content: All the good ones Pac Rim, as we all now isn't the deepest, but man is it a bass journey that literally leaves you aching from the pummeling. It was merely a good warm up for what came next.... we delved into the meaty section of ULF: TIH, ST ship flip scene, the CATWS bubble gum scene, Oz ( I have to go buy this one now). The fireworks on Oz literally had me flying out of my seat as I thought the system was still muted but it wasn't.....holy cow! Really fun, family friendly demo scene that packs a punch. The other tracks were just silly. I already mentioned the floor resonance. It's just something you have to experience. I am moving my theater up to the living room as we speak to try and get on that Haha. (Not really) Next up we did some output monsters, Interstellar stuck out here. My god I was having a little trouble seeing. I know this sounds stupid, but I love when it gets to that point.... Big ups to Paul for being a wizard with Speclab and REW. He had things up,running and sweeping just silly fast... If I was that efficient with all my gear, I would be throwing yall new graphs on the reg!!!! I had to cut my night a little short to make the trip back up the hill but did I ever have a good time!!!! How great of a house, host(s), and HT space. The room specifically is just SO inviting and cozy. I gotta work on decor in my space to make it a little more "Homey" like that... It's going to be a great place for years to come...until Dave manages to drop the whole room into his garage after another day like Tuesday. It was easy to tell the house is an open-door policy such as mine was growing up. It's a place people WANT to just come by and hang out. This is the same way my house is now, and I would have it no other way. Thanks again for the hospitality and good times, I feel like we didn't have enough of the latter, but that just means we need to do it again soon! I just went back and replayed it with everything set exactly the way it was when we shot the video for it and took some measurements... Turns out we were pushing 8912.32 peak Watts (give or take some equipment measurement error) to the 2 HST's in that video. The drivers were moving 42mm one way. Hahahahahaha! ! Disclaimer: We do not recommend that you feed that much power to any of Stereo Integrity's products. It was done only in the name of GTG excess and fun. I agree with the others in that it looks very inviting.. reminds me of where I grew up and currently live now. The food helps Man oh man.. I'm drooling at the spread that the Mrs. put out. You're a lucky man! If that ain't driver porn, I don't know what is! Hahaha you guys pushed almost 4500 watts a piece? Damn.. Nick makes some badass stuff! I might have to give him a call for a pair of 18hst's I guess... paired with a BossoBass amp? Yeah.. an 18 per 100 cubic ft. sounds about right.. Awesome stuff, guys. Bossobass Dave Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 I'm waiting for a custom piece that didn't arrive in time for the GTG before I post my review of the HST-15s Nick brought to the table and how they mate with the Raptor enclosures and the modded clone amplifier we used to power the system, as well as the differences, if any. In the meanwhile, here is the scoop on the CATWS scene that blew the door out of it's opening and the "Bubble Gum" scene: It's an odd placement for ULF. It seems to be out of nowhere with no context with the video, but there is it... a couple of 33 Hz tones followed by ULF wobble... one reason CATWS garnered so many votes for MWB of the year. Just like Beast said Bosso's house makes you WANT to come by and hang out and you know they are always welcoming. Far as I can tell in the video, that surround looks really well-behaved; I'd not have expected that. The thing that irks me about drivers with the parabolic surrounds like the LMS-U is that the surround seems to lag behind the cone's movement and I would've expected that huge honkin' thing to be even more out of phase in movement, but that looks good in slow-mo. How'd it look in person? ... Seriously when I move into a new house this next year I am going to see if you will do me the honors of building a DO enclosure for a pair of 24's in the same finish/style as your Raptors... What would those be called anyways? With the Ravens and the Raptors, would these then be the Teratorns? (In keeping with Bosso's bird names and the Pelagornis sandersi was found in the Carolinas, afterall.) Of course, recreating a gathering like this... with those might end up looking more like this. Good lord! and they were running clean at that! Where is our favorite critic when you need him? Should I post the excursion video over at avs for fun? but that looks good in slow-mo. How'd it look in person? Violent is really the only word I could use to describe it..... The driver was running clean as a whistle though. Ill be interested to see if there is any malodorous effects when those come back out of the box. My guess is they will be just fine, but holy moley! we had those things movin'...... I wish I can attend more of these but in due time as my children get older I will get away! Nick, very nice drivers! I love that huge surround look. You don't have to shoot for a perfect Qtc alignment when you have EQ. If the driver is capable of accepting the boost from an EQ you can use a smaller enclosure and get the desired results. My DO HS-24 enclosures will not be that tall by any means. And being 24" drivers the sonotube is going to have to be at least 28" or 30" in diameter so the volume will be here. 7 to 8 ft^3 per driver is all I need. PS: Nice name for the subwoofer system. Comon honestly, probably not "a lot". There is a lot of hateful negativity on that site and some really creative nice people -who are mostly here as well. He didn't like that Nick declared the HS24 the highest displacement sub in the world. He cited the jackhammer as being more Vd. There's also the Fostex FW800HS and maybe more, I dunno. But I didn't really follow along, nor do I care. When it comes to buying subs I just buy the one that fits my needs, not what a manufacturer's says about it.
