Comments - While OK, just not up to par with the previous 3 Daniel Craig Bond films.  It's as if they want to morph the tougher, grittier Bond with Roger Moore's Bond, and IMO, it fell flat on its face trying to do so.  I'm glad Sam Mendes will not be back to direct.  Typical 'louder is better' sound design/mixing on this one, with the flat-tops on every channel to match.  Lots of clipping on every channel.

This didn't have as much bass as you'd expect from a Bond movie (but the same could be said about the action) but what was there wasn't too bad, so I voted 3 stars.

The movie itself was just one big disappointment, especially after the amazing Skyfall and Casino Royale. Not the worst movie ever by any means but not what I expect from a Bond movie.

Buy because it's Bond.

3-stars because the explosions etc were samey and sounded compressed, and some bits I even turned down because it didn't sound good  :(  (I admit my LCR/Surround speakers are not the bestest ever but they certainly aren't crap.)

Some bits of speech sounded very strained at -16, which is only my usual listening level (or thereabouts) - Star Trek Next Generation I listen to anywhere up to about -11, so it's saying something if a 20-odd year old TV series sounds better than a brand new multi-million $ film...

Ain't that the truth. I voted 2 stars for sound. I also agree buy cause it's Bond. At least that's what I did. But the sound on this movie really left me wanting more. Funny, the opening bass thump sound effect thing made both my wife and I look at each other like, "here we go" but from there on the sound sucked. Admittedly, I'm tough on votes because I'm sick of junk sound tracks and whats the point of a 5 point rating system if nothing is ever rated 1 or 2.

As for the movie as a bond movie, it was fairly weak. I enjoyed it, but it was quite vanilla IMO. The bad guy didn't even hold a gun as far as I can remember. The Spectre meeting where he sat in a shadow made him seem really bad ass to be honest, but then he was just a dork from then on. Which is a shame and a waste of talent because in Inglorious Bastards he was possibly the best villain I've ever watched on screen. Very impressive performance in that movie. In this, he was just a soft geek with a lot of money. Very little action too. Good sets, good score, good car, good Q, good M, good Money Penny, good Bond, but that's it IMO. <_<

I actually enjoyed the movie.  Maybe I'm not as set in what I expect from a Bond movie so I just expected a pretty, over the top action film (which this certainly was).

Bass wise, you could definitely tell there wasn't anything going on in the low registers, but it still sounded okay for the most part.  The big explosion at the beginning was a bit muddy, but I've heard a lot worse.  I didn't find the clipping to be all that distracting either.

A significant part of how much you enjoy a film has to do with expectations.....mine were simply too high.  Was it OK to good?  Absolutely.  As good as the first two?  No.  As good as Skyfall?  Definitely no.  If this film would have followed Quantum, we'd be likely singing a different tune right now.

I'm in the minority that didn't think Skyfall was a masterpiece.  It was entertaining, but for me it's not any better or worse than Spectre.

Personally I thought Casino Royale was a true classic and every one since then has failed to match it (even Skyfall).

Now if we're talking bass then yes, Skyfall was better.

I would rate the 4 Craig Bond films as far as the actual film itself goes (not bass) like this....

1. Casino Royale

2. Skyfall

3. Spectre

4. QoS

I thought Quantum was definitely the weakest of the 4 films, but it's very subjective of course.

Was it just me or was there an octopus sex scene in the intro credits?  What kind of an F'd up brain thinks of that?

You didn't find that kinky?  Was it just me?

Kidding.  Anyway, my initial opinion was with the final twenty minutes of the movie unseen.  Now that I've seen the rest my opinion has dropped a bit.  The main villains connection to Bond was completely unnecessary and contrived, so much so that it really hurt the character and made him considerably less imposing and threatening as his motivations were no longer malevolent, just merely petty.

Bass wise my opinion is the same, except that I no longer consider the opening explosion bloated, at least not in comparison to the big one at the two hour mark.  That one was heavily compressed and almost honky (kind of like Interstellar)

My Rank order for the Craig Bond is just as they were released:

1. CR (but a bit long on a re-watch)

2. QoS (decent on re-watch)

3. Skyfall (Not so good on re-watch)

4. Spectre (Will not get a re-watch)

I like the tougher, grittier bond, but it seems like the last 2 films are trying to make Daniel Craig into Roger Moore.  Not good.

Good watch:

Well... darn.

I did quite enjoy the soundtrack, I have to admit that. I expected a disaster after seeing the measurements, but it really wasn't all that bad to my ears. While most of the big bass effects are pretty one-note sounding and lack real ULF extension, they sure were loud and impactful (and not as audibly clipped to pieces as Godzilla for example) and did provide a few "WOW"-moments with my PB13. The "the dead are alive" intro surprised me and made me smile. I'd describe it as a guilty pleasure bass-track.

The rest of the package was quite good, enveloping sound field and decently clean. Less so though than Skyfall, which was especially noticeable through the center channel.

Movie is OK. Production design is top notch and the cinematography (while not on par with the gorgeous-looking Skyfall) is sweet at times, like in the meeting with the shadows. But writing is the worst of the Craig films and the way they tried to merge the previous films together felt lazy and forced. Same goes for Lea Seadoux's character development. And such a waste of Christoph Waltz.

Oh well. 'Splosions! Loud 'splosions!

Watched this one within the last month - bass was soo loud I had to keep turning it down.  My wife and I both thought the bass was over the top.  The only bass that was noticably cool to me was the intro scene bass beat in the carnival. (It actually surprised me with the first beat)  The rest of the movie just seemed overly loud and mediocre.  3 star, rent.  I thought this was probably Daniel Craig's weakest Bond Movie.

Yay! I watched another one that is still open.

Not an awful movie, but not nearly what I had hoped for. MaxMercy's critique sums it up for me.

Loud, but not low. Completely lacked "heft" when scenes called for it. Clipping all over.

-0.5 for clipping, another -0.5 for the loudness war, and -1 for the kid's table highpass

3 and Buy from me, but only because Bond.
