The Monuments Men (5.1 DTS-HD MA)

Level        - 1 Star (102.35dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (32.78dB)

Execution - 3 Stars (by poll)

Overall     - 3.5 Stars

Recommendation - Rent (by poll)

Notes:  Not really a bass movie, but what little bass content it does have is often surprisingly full-bandwidth.

3 Days to Kill (5.1 DTS-HD MA)

Level        - 4 Stars (110.61dB composite)
Extension - 3 Stars (18Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (28.43dB)

Execution - 3 Stars (by poll)

Overall     - 3.75 Stars

Recommendation - Rent (by poll)

Notes:  Besides one small hit just above 10Hz, there really isn't anything below 18Hz in this movie.  Very steeply filtered at 30Hz.

Pompeii (5.1 DTS-HD MA)

Level        - 4 Stars (110.5dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (29.19dB)

Execution - 5 Stars (by poll)

Overall     - 4.75 Stars

Recommendation - Rent (by poll)

Notes:  Near constant DC noise, but lots of real content below 20Hz, with some happening below 10Hz.  The movie isn't great, but the bass is!

Bee Movie (5.1 TrueHD)

Level        - 2 Stars (106.54dB composite)
Extension - 4 Stars (14Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (36.28dB!!!)

Execution - 4 Stars (by poll)

Overall     - 3.75 Stars

Recommendation - Buy (by poll)

Notes:  Holy guacamole, look at those dynamics!!!  I'm a big fan of this one.  Though it is generally low level - I had to run it +7 above normal to get the dialog the right level - it packs a punch 20Hz and above, and the bass scenes sound HUGE.  Since we're talking about miniature, bee-sized stuff, I didn't need the sub 20Hz content to get immersed.  Often, the bass comes completely out of nowhere and just wallops you, like in the tennis balls scene, or in the Honex factory.  I'm a sucker for animated comedies, and it doesn't hurt that this one has completely appropriate bass.

Hanna (5.1 DTS-HD MA)

Level        - 4 Stars (111.08dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (9Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (30.1dB)

Execution - 5 Stars (by poll)

Overall     - 4.75 Stars

Recommendation - Buy (by poll)

Notes:  Very solid use of the low frequencies in this one, with serious midbass.  Huge 10Hz hits, and lots of < 20Hz stuff besides. The movie has a bunch of bass content, and it's not a terrible movie, either.

Question?

A gentleman commented that the Australian blu ray of Master and Commander does not have the high pass filter.  Can anyone confirm or disprove this?

I looked but maybe I missed it.  Is Aliens BR on here anyplace.  Some parts seem to have a bit of some bass, probably not that much but the ending seemed really weak.  I was wondering if anybody has looked at this.  I have the extended version which is a better movie overall in my mind.  But I don't have any time stamps.  I was just wondering if anybody has done that movie.

Thanks

I believe this is not strictly taken from blu-ray, but gives idea of extension.

Look like its same as scandinavian blu-ray(i own it), what have that same 25hz filter as us blu-ray. There is also 2011 re-released us blu-ray, any idea how bass is in that version?

Pain and Gain (7.1 TrueHD)

Level        - 3 Stars (109.91dB composite)
Extension - 3 Stars (19Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (28.63dB)

Execution - 3 Stars (by poll)

Notes:  Tons of very strong midbass slam.  Steeply filtered from 24Hz on down, but an unexpectedly dynamic mix!  Pretty mediocre movie.

Also remeasured Gamer (jumped from a 4 to 4.5) and LOTR:TTT Ext (jumped from a 3 to 3.75).

I have all the Resident Evils, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Colombiana, Unstoppable, The International, and Devil's Due measured. I'll be posting those in the coming week.

Not many great upcoming releases to speak of besides Lone Survivor and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit - both have very solid numbers.

Yes, the upcoming releases look pitiful. However both those have me very interested. I'm hoping for good bass from these along with good reviews, because I'd like to finally be able to buy a movie. It's been months. I've become exceptionally picky about what I buy. If the studios want my money they need to stop screwing around.

That makes sense about Pain and Gain.  It was a lot of midbass for my 23 Hz sub, and it was mostly from music it seemed.
