Just put HTTYD in my Netflix que. I had forgotten about that one. Will post up some more this afternoon.

B:LA blew me away, it was a tremendous sleeper. Prob would not have even watched the film w/o hearing about it on the forums.

Getting WotW, WotT, and Prometheus this weekend from 'Flix....should be interesting....

X-Men 3:

Level: 4 Stars (110.75dB composite)
Extension: 5 Stars (9Hz)
Dynamics: 5 Stars (29.14dB)
Execution: 4 Stars - Well done film, could have had stronger ULF. If we remember, this film was all the rage in the DrPain thread for a while...

Overall: 4.5 Stars

Recommendation: Rent. This film did not get directed by Bryan Singer, and it shows. Still pretty good, but you can tell something is missing when compared to X1 and X2, but it is an improvement LF-wise over the other 2 films.

Casino Royale:

Level - 3 Stars (109.16dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (30.19dB)
Execution - 4 Stars - Again, some more beef in the sub-20Hz region and you have a 5-Star film. More 'rumble' than 'slam' in this film.

Overall - 4.25 Stars

Recommendation - Buy. This film truly rebooted the franchise, with a tougher, grittier, more believable Bond (insofar as James Bond is 'believable'). Although it sucks that the film ends 3 separate times, it is still well put together.

Posting tomorrow:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer

Put it on your list... the entire soundtrack is low end awesomeness.

Good to hear that Abe kicks some ass....

Number 2 on my queue......only reason it won't be here just yet is it says "Short Wait"....

Assassin's Bullet has been #1 on the queue for a while, and it says "Long Wait"...

Finally rented Assassins Bullet. Wasn't a fan of the movie. Had some LFE but on tge whole, the movie felt like a made for TV movie, or a straight to video deal.

What'd you think of the movie itself Dave? A friend let me borrow it for the 3D, so I'm excited I have good bass to look forward too, I was just concerned about it being...........watchable.

Yah mine are too I was just hoping I could make it through the whole movie. Hopefully the 3D and bass will help me endure.

Netflix says they will ship Abe, WotW, and WotT today. We'll see how they measure up to the others!

Next year will bring a new Iron Man, a new Thor, and hopefully a sleeper or two....like Battle:LA was.

Anyone charted 'Fourth Kind'? Caught the tail end of it on cable and was surprised by the LFE in the little bit I saw of it. There were some scenes where there wasn't much audible but stuff was shaking.

Here's Quantum of Solace:

Level - 3 Stars (109.73dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz)
Dynamics - 5 Stars (27.84dB)
Execution - 4 Stars.  Terrific Mix, just not as good as the best.

Overall - 4.25 Stars

Recommendation - Buy. This film was better than the first Bond reboot, IMO.

Don't forget Superman. It looks like it will be a great movie and a great soundtrack. I hope.

I will add Superman Returns to my queue...and I am looking forward to The Man of Steel.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am going to go to bed now, long night on call.

Dammit. I meant The Man of Steel. Hope you didn't add Superman Returns because of me. That movie was awful.

You're a beast Max. Hope you enjoy you're thanksgiving or whatever day you have off.

Black Hawk Down:

Level - 3 Stars (108.68dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (3Hz)
Dynamics - 4 Stars (27.48dB)
Execution - 5 Stars - Full bandwidth sound nearly throughout...and the Irene scene is legendary in ULF circles....

Overall - 4.25 Stars.

Recommendation - Buy. This is a first class film in every regard, and very engaging. The Irene scene is just icing on the cake for the ULF capable, and nearly every scene with a BlackHawk has some 5-7Hz content in it.

X-Men Origins:Wolverine:

Level - 2 Stars (107.03dB)
Extension - 5 Stars (1 Hz)
Dynamics - 4 Stars (25.41dB)
Execution - 4 Stars - Although I had a great experience in the theater with this one, it seemed 'turned down' for the near-field mix....too bad.

Overall - 3.75 Stars

Recommendation - Rent. This film has some 'rushed' effects, and many cheesy scenes. The introduction of other characters including Gambit is its only real plus.

X-Men:First Class:

Level - 3 Stars (109.41dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (1Hz)
Dynamics - 4 Stars (25.06dB)
Execution - 5 Stars - Save for a sonic boom that was way too boomy, this film is packed with more ULF goodness than nearly any here.

Overall - 4.25 Stars

Recommendation - Buy. This film is terrific. The fact that it is a ULF-happy film is just bonus.

Here are the Star Ratings so far (see first post):

If you see all films ranked above 4 Stars, they all deserve it. I will keep the ranking system the way it is.

The gunshot in Ch 3 reminded me very much like the cannon shot in M&C (which we have to get up, DVD version). The movie surprised me because a) I hate vampire movies a s a rule and B) the premise is so ridiculous I never thought it could be pulled off.

I liked the movie, the score is superb and the sound effects and mix are excellent. Not a crate of single digit but enough to add a great variance to the LFE and adding scary weight when required. Lots more in this one. I could have done at least a dozen scenes.

Should get this, WotW and WotT today! I'll put M&C in the queue (DVD). I wonder if someone could mux the DVD audio into the HiDef BD video? Same with Episode II.....

JSS,

Actually rented The Fourth Kind to check it out. Not as much LFE as I thought aside from a few scenes. Nicely used to add atmosphere to it though. It appears that horror movie directors understand the concept of using LFE for mood/atmosphere. I've heard that The Woman In Black has decent LFE. I'll have to check that one out.

P.S. Looking forward to the WOTW and WOTT graphs!

War of the Worlds:

Level - 5 Stars (113.7dB composite)
Extension - 5 Stars (1 Hz)
Dynamics - 4 Stars (27.28dB)
Execution - 5 Stars - This film is the ultimate bass film, with something for every subwoofer system.

Overall - 4.75 Stars

Recommendation: Buy.

So many scenes have demo-level material.....you could make a whole thread with just this movie's scene caps.
