Notes:  I think I may be a little spoiled when it comes to movies with bass, because I didn't think this one's mix was anything special.  However, it won both Academy Awards for Sound Mixing and Sound Editing, so somebody must have loved it!  This movie uses a lot of 20-26Hz rumble that creates a room shuddering effect, but not a whole lot else really worth mentioning, and looking at the measurements, it has the steepest filter I've ever seen at 20Hz.

While there are other bass moments, I didn't think they were particularly well-designed - I felt like a whole lot of ELF could be used in place or in conjunction with that 20Hz stuff and, for a space movie that you might think would have perfectly quiet scenes, it didn't pull off impressive dynamics like it could/should.  I think what is there is used appropriately, even fairly artfully with some of the surround work that combines well with the interesting CGI cinematography, but in the context of this thread it didn't knock my socks off.  While the movie was good, it wasn't great, nor was the mix.

Um, well yeah the rest of the sound was really really really good. I know these are bass PvA's but yeah the rest of the mix is world class. There is a damn good reason why it's up for those awards.

I was just talking with Filmmixer on Sunday. Maybe if I could get the Academy screening room to replace their entire sub system by one designed by us then maybe they can make a new award for best bass/ulf. Lol.

Just bustin' your balls a bit, Nube. Nothing meant by it. Just sayin' :P I really appreciate what you're doing. Thanks!

Can't wait to get this today!

Damn, no kidding? I might just have to blind buy this!

You didn't get it? Gravity is awesome!

Just watched it for a second time now. Love it.

If possible I'd like to see the part charted from where they get the radio transmission of the satellite impact. There is some nice constant 20hz going, And just for fun the ISS fire and then destruction charted would be sick.

I am waiting on a rental for the 3d version next week most likely, but I might have to cancel that and just blind buy it with all these rave audio reports I keep reading!

Haven't seen it over the home system, but saw it in pseudo Imax 3D, ... it was a powerful experience.

First big impact was me paying for our family of four, and my daughter's boyfriend, ... talk about an impactful movie experience!

But, mere seconds into the film, I was entirely captivated by the entire experience. Got there early enough to choose the seat I wanted (if I'm going, I'm going to sit where I want). Not a fan of 3D, but if ever a film was tailor made for large screen and 3D it was this one. There were long periods where I was entirely engrossed .. I enjoyed the theatrical mix, and I'm buying it soon to assess the ST over the wider bandwidth home rig.

After I see what it's got, I'll be glad to vote.

Gimme pretty exact timestamps, Scott, and I'll get them graphed tonight.

xmeatx:  I think you can change your vote, right?

Hey thanks, Nube!

I got:

9:55-13:10

43:15-46:15

51:30-53:25

It's not all the deepest bass ever. Just really good bass, imo. Longer sequences than usual. Hope that's not a problem.

Here they are.  Instead of compressing their duration, I just took multiple captures to get most of each selected scene. The monotonous rumble is obvious.  They're in order.

Aaannnddd tthhaannkkk you!

Probably nothing impressive to most but it's still fun to see what is there. Noticed that the ISS sequence has some nice upper teen's content and the ISS destruction has use of that 1hz bass. :)
